Not Your Normal 12yo Girl

When other 12yo girls are watching High School Musical, wearing Hannah Montana clothes and collecting shiny, sparkly things, MY 12yo is watching Star Wars (hence the alias, Leia), wearing green camo and collecting hats, pins and pocket knives. I.love.her.

She may let me take a picture of her and her stuff. We'll see....today we went to the flea market. It's free to look and cheap to buy. A good day, kwim? So, know what Leia bought? Besides a couple pins for her collection? Ah, you'll never guess...it's something she has been looking for. To go with her hats. I'll give you a minute to think about it.

Give up?

She bought a whip. For $1.00. To go with her fedora's (aka Indiana Jones' hats). Yes, it's a cheap whip. But she loves it. And after hundreds of a few tries, she could crack that whip. To see the smile on her face was well worth the dollar. And it may break tomorrow because it is cheap. But the guy had a box full of them, so we can always get another.

And her hat collection consists of 2 fedora's, a fez, a safari hat and a camo hat. Nothing girly in there. And how many girls do you know that collect pocket knives? And whittle when they are bored? Or watch Star Wars over and over? Or build space ships out of legos?

Or own a larger than life Darth Vader?
She loves being different. And I love her for loving it.

Lynn she is beautiful! My girls are not very girlie but I think i'll keep em!

That's awesome! It's so good to see that she's pursuing her own desires and not trying to fit in any mold. My oldest daughter is definitely a girly girl. My younger daughter (18 months) likes to dress up a little, but she's also already showing ball skills.

It's so great that she is her own person, and not just following the crowd, that means has a strong soul, I was always very proud that both my girls marched to their own drum,m it makes them interesting and strong people!!!

Insane Mama

I have two girlie girls, and they drive me nuts, I love that my youngest is totally into boy stuff and knives and camo. I dig her and Leia is, well, perfect!
